About

Upupayāma is the musical persona of Alessio Ferrari, an Italian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who lives in a small mountain village above the city of Parma. Ferrari's music is rooted strongly in Eastern and Western folk traditions, blending them with his own modern sensibilities and style. He plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums, and also incorporates instruments like sitar, erhu, flute, and various percussion instruments into his sound.

Upupayāma's 2022 album, 'The Golden Pond,' is inspired by Ferrari's frequent visits to a small lake near his mountain home, focusing on the details of the place he inhabits. Upupayāma's music is known for its psychedelic, folk, and ambient elements, creating a unique and immersive sonic experience. In October 2025 Upupayāma released a LIVE AT FUZZ CLUB FESTIVAL 2025 LP on Fuzz Club Records.

Upupayāma recently announced their fourth album 'Honesty Flowers', which is due for release on May 29th 2026 on Fuzz Club.

An epic double album set, it finds Upupayāma's ever mind-blowing brew of organic psychedelic rock meets global grooves at its most percussive, lively and distorted. Equally hedonistic and heady, it courses through rhythmic funk grooves, doubled-down scorched fuzz riffing, winding motorik jams, tranquil drones and pastoral acid-folk across its seventy minute run time.
